What is a B.S. degree worth?

Career DevelopmentAimee Picchi contributed an article to CBS Money Watch entitled, The top-paying and lowest-paying college majors.  I believe that this information is relevant because, some professionals or family members may be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree. Due to the high cost of education, everyone should consider the value and return on their financial and time investment.

Those who major in the top-earning subjects can obtain jobs that pay as much as 70 percent more than the lowest-paying majors, according to a new study from Glassdoor.

Below I have summarized the top and lowest five majors, by salary in five years. However you should read the original article here.

Top 5: Industrial engineering graduates earn $64,381 within five years.

Top 4: Chemical engineering graduates earn $65,000 within five years.

Top 3: Mechanical engineering graduates earn $68,000 within five years.

Top 2 Electrical engineering graduates earn $68,438 within five years.

Top 1: Computer science graduates earn $70,000 within five years.

Lowest 5: Psychology graduates have median earnings of $42,000.

Lowest 4: Sociology graduates have median earnings of $42,000.

Lowest 3: Health care administration graduates have median earnings of $42,000.

Lowest 2: Social work graduates have median earnings of $41,656.

Lowest 1: Biology graduates have median earnings of $41,250.

Money isn’t everything and there is still value in pursuing what you love, or for which you have exhibited extraordinary talent.
